Friday 29th June was the date. Once again, Sedlescombe Golf Club was the venue. Once again (14th year in a row!!!), the sun shone. The scene was set for this years Trade Paints Charity Golf Day.

With sun lotion abound, the day kicked off with some great bacon rolls (they were one of the best i've ever encountered!). With the generously donated prizes on display, all 58 players dutifully registered on time and with minimum fuss ... and thankfully (I don't like naming and shaming on here) all coughed up the extra £20 for the yellow ball comp.

The two tee start meant things progressed rather swiftly and smoothly ... the yells of FORE almost as frequent as the gentle pop of the lid of a bottle (thank you to Kevin of Trade Paints and Simon of Dulux fame for keeping us all refreshed!: ). In a haze of flying balls and sunshine before you knew it we were back at the Clubhouse for more delicious food (this time local sausages and burgers straight from the BBQ!!).

After some kind and humbling words from Jay of Charity for Kids (more on that in a minute), Dean and I got to the chaotic business of handing out all the prizes ... and boy was it thirsty work! : ]. Full results can be seen below, but well done to...

  • Dave Wicks- Individual winner with 43 points (off scratch!!) ... just pipping Peter Yates with 42.
  • Dazzers Dazlers- nerves of steel and winners of the Yell Ball comp.
  • Team TRADE PANTS!! ... the overall team winner with a whopping 97 points!!! ... it's only taken 14 years, but we finally have our name on our cup!

I am very proud and pleased to be able to report that between the worm burners, the fat and thinned, the scorching drives (for some ; ), we raised an impressive £1015 on the day. Trade Paints happily topped this up to £1500, and a further £500 was very generously donated by local golfing legend Paul McMath of Prospoer Loans (www.prosperhomeloans.co.uk).

A grand total of £2000 raised- THANK YOU!! We were informed on the day that £1000 of this will fund a special tricycle for a local young girl so 'she can enjoy going out for bike rides with her brother' ... what a great cause (and how very humbling given we were all so lucky to be playing golf!).

That just leaves me to say a big THANK YOU to All at Sedlescombe Golf Club (great hospitality as ever); our very generous sponsors (particularly Crown Paints for the goody bags, and Chandlers of Hailsham for not 1 car but 2!) and finally all those who endured the golf on the day and gave kindly ... we hope to see you next year!

Peter.
